Overcoming Isometrics and Potential Energy

“By giving nothing out, I was slowly conserving energy, and as the commerce of the world, interest is given for money, and the more money, the more interest; so, the more energy conserved, the more strength is proportionally attained, and with interest, because it reacts upon itself.” (p 9 Maxick, How to become a great athlete)

Intro

When I’m not plotting ways to lead people to a better state of well-being through alternative methods I like to work out. I’ve always lived an active lifestyle and have done many things through my teens and my adulthood either for leisure or while serving as a Marine.

  • Skating/Skateboarding

  • Martial Arts

  • Swimming

  • Weight lifting

  • Various forms of calisthenics

  • Fun hikes with a backpack

  • Horrible hikes with 100 pounds of gear

  • And more…

Physical activity is exhausting there’s a give, take, and then receive.

Give: Effort

Take: Time & Energy

Receive: Improved functionality

But there are forms of training where the take is minimized. You give effort and from there to the receive that time is a fraction of what it would be otherwise. The quote I have above from a Physical Culture strongman by the name of Maxick provides a perfect explanation of this. Although he used a different system of training known as “Muscle Control” I’ve found that these energy conservation effects apply to Overcoming Isometrics (OCIs). But I want to use my terminology because the energy from such forms of training is not just conserved. I would classify it as potential energy.

Potential energy is the energy possessed by a body due to its position to others, electric charge, and other factors.

And this is what a diet of OCIs does for the individual.

Another Purpose To Train

“True recreation should help one in the work of the day, by storing up a plenitude of physical and mental energy” (Health, Strength And Will Power, Maxick And Saldo.)

With the new year comes new year resolutions and the need for some to want to get in shape for their yearly goals. The common solution is to get a gym membership and train there for exercise boosts your energy, and this is true. But I’m advocating a more direct route that you will feel as you move throughout the day.

A 15 to 20-minute session every day or every other day will provide you with potential energy that will manifest in feeling like you’re 10 years younger and 20 pounds lighter.

Trust The Science!!!!

A dystrophin-deficient muscle is missing a protein(dystrophin) and can become easily damaged, lack efficient activation, and can later atrophy. It is also referred to as Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

PGC1-a is a protein that stimulates the development of mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell).

If it can create fatigue resistance in those with muscular dystrophy, what can it do for the average person?

Wrap Up

This form of training provides a strong basis for everything I do. I hope that one day you’ll find it as valuable as I do.

Thank you for making it to the end and let me know your thoughts below.

Until next time…
